    Virgil-Florin Duma

    Virgil-Florin Duma is Professor of Engineering at the Aurel Vlaicu University of Arad (UAVA) Romania, where he founded and leads the 3OM Optomechatronics Group. He received his PhD cum laude in Fine Mechanics & Optics in 2001, from the Polytechnics University of Timisoara (UPT), Romania, where he graduated in 1991, summa cum laude. In 1991-2001 he worked at UPT; in 1999-2001 he had joint appointments at UPT and at UAVA. In 2001 he became Associate Professor and in 2006 Professor at UAVA. He is author of over 170 publications in journals and conferences, 15 books & book chapters, and has 3 patents requests. He was a Fulbright Senior Research Fellow at The Institute of Optics, University of Rochester, NY, USA (2009-2010), where he holds a Visiting Scientist position, is since 2009 a Visiting Senior Research Fellow at the University of Kent, Canterbury, UK, and since 2014 an Adjunct Professor at the School of Physics, West University of Timisoara, Romania and at UPT (at the latter, as PhD supervisor). Prof. Duma is since 2009 Vice-president of EUROP RO (Romanian branch of EUropean RObotics Platform) and since 2013 President of the Arad branch of the Romanian Robotics Society. He has participated in 16 research projects (in 5 of them as PI) and is currently PI of a Partnership Grant of the Romanian National Authority for Scientific Research ( http://3om-group-optomechatronics.ro/ ). His research interests are in Measuring Systems, Optomechatronics, and Biomedical Imaging. He is a member of OSA and IFToMM, and a Senior Member of SPIE.
