    Robert A. Byrne

    Robert A. Byrne is an interventional cardiologist at the Deutsches Herzzentrum, Munich, Germany and Director of the Imaging Core Laboratory at the ISARESEARCH Centre. He graduated from medical school at University College Dublin, Ireland and completed his PhD in Medical Life Science and Technology at the Technische Universität in Munich, Germany. Research awards received include the European Society of Cardiology Atherothrombosis Research Fellowship 2008 and the Transcatheter Cardiovascular Therapeutics Thomas J. Linnemeier Young Investigator Award 2009. His main research interests include stent thrombosis, drug-eluting stent development, optical coherence tomography imaging and coronary restenosis. He is principal investigator or steering committee member in several clinical trials and an investigator in the European Union-funded PRESTIGE stent thrombosis project ( www.prestige-fp7.eu ). He has published more than 100 peer-reviewed manuscripts and book chapters in the area of coronary intervention among them papers in leading journals including the New England Journal of Medicine, the Lancet, Circulation, JACC and the European Heart Journal. Dr. Byrne is an International Associate Editor at EuroIntervention and a reviewer for many medical, cardiology and interventional journals. He is a fellow of the European Society of Cardiology and a member of many cardiac societies including the EAPCI.
