    3. Non-Culprit Coronary Plaque Characteristics of Chronic Kidney Disease

Non-Culprit Coronary Plaque Characteristics of Chronic Kidney Disease

Background —Chronic kidney disease (CKD) promotes the development of atherosclerosis and increases the risk of cardiovascular disease. The aim of the present study was to compare the coronary plaque characteristics of patients with and without CKD using optical coherence tomography (OCT). Methods and Results —We identified 463 non-culprit plaques from 287 patients from the MGH OCT Registry. CKD was defined as estimated glomerular filtration rate (eGFR) < 60ml/min/1.73m 2 . 402 plaques (250 patients) were in the non-CKD group and 61 plaques (37 patients) were in the CKD group. Compared to non-CKD plaques, plaques with CKD had a larger ...

    4. Spectral Domain Optical Coherence Tomography-Determined Morphologic Predictors of Age-Related Macular Degeneration-Associated Geographic Atrophy Progression

Spectral Domain Optical Coherence Tomography-Determined Morphologic Predictors of Age-Related Macular Degeneration-Associated Geographic Atrophy Progression

Purpose: To correlate spectral domain optical coherence tomography (SD OCT)-determined morphologic alterations in eyes with geographic atrophy because of age-related macular degeneration with lesion size, enlargement rate, and the presence of multifocal patches of atrophy. Methods: Forty-three eyes of 43 patients with age-related macular degeneration-associated geographic atrophy were visualized by SD OCT and fundus autofluorescence imaging. The baseline area of geographic atrophy and enlargement rates over at least 24 weeks were calculated from the fundus autofluorescence images. The mean and median follow-up times were 47.4 and 48 weeks, respectively. Morphologic alterations were evaluated in the baseline SD OCT ...

    5. Detection of Glaucomatous Progression by Spectral-Domain Optical Coherence Tomography

Detection of Glaucomatous Progression by Spectral-Domain Optical Coherence Tomography

Purpose To compare the rate of change of circumpapillary retinal nerve fiber layer (cRNFL) thickness, macular volume and thickness, and optic nerve head (ONH) parameters assessed using spectral-domain optical coherence tomography (SD-OCT) between eyes with progressing and nonprogressing glaucoma. Design Longitudinal, observational study. Participants Two hundred seventy-nine eyes from 162 glaucoma patients followed for an average of 2.2 years. Methods Eyes were classified as progressors and nonprogressors according to assessment of optic disc and RNFL photographs and visual field progression analysis. Linear mixed effects models were used to evaluate the overall rate of change of cRNFL thickness, macular volume ...

    8. Comparison Between Deviation Map Algorithm and Peripapillary Retinal Nerve Fiber Layer Measurements Using Cirrus HD-OCT in the Detection of Localized Glaucomatous Visual Field Defects

Comparison Between Deviation Map Algorithm and Peripapillary Retinal Nerve Fiber Layer Measurements Using Cirrus HD-OCT in the Detection of Localized Glaucomatous Visual Field Defects

Purpose: To compare the capability of the deviation map algorithm and peripapillary retinal nerve fiber layer (pRNFL) thickness measurements, both determined using Cirrus spectral domain optical coherence tomography (Carl Zeiss Meditec Inc., Dublin, CA), in discrimination between healthy and glaucomatous eyes. Methods: This cross-sectional comparative prospective study included 54 patients with glaucoma with localized visual field (VF) defects confined to 1 hemifield and 54 normal controls. Mean pRNFL thickness corresponding to localized VF defect was calculated. A deviation Score (DS) was assigned by customized Image J software (Http://www.rsb.info.hih.gov/ij/18) calculating the number of abnormal ...

  2. About Asan Medical Center

    Asan Medical Center

Asan Medical Center Korea’s largest tertiary referral hospital with 2,189 beds, was founded in 1989 by the late Chairman Chung_Ju-yung of Asan Foundation, with the philanthropic principles of meeting the growing demand for specialized treatments to the under privileged in society. Since then, this patient-oriented hospital has been caring more than 8,300 outpatients, 2,080 inpatients, and 180 emergency patients, while successfully performing 195 complex surgical operations on a daily basis. When AMC opens a 20-story new building in 2008, this hospital will be equipped with 3,000 beds and could offer upgraded health care services.
