Added soft tissue contrast using signal attenuation and the fractal dimension for optical coherence tomography images of porcine arterial tissue
Explore Article IOPscience (Apr 4 2010)
Optical coherence tomography (OCT) images of left-descending coronary tissues harvested from three porcine specimens were acquired with a home-build swept-source OCT setup. Despite the fact that OCT is capable of acquiring high resolution circumferential images of vessels, many distinct histological features of a vessel have comparable optical properties leading to poor contrast in OCT images. Two classification methods were tested in this report for the purpose of enhancing contrast between ...

3×3 MZI with unbalanced differential detection for full range swept-source optical coherence tomography
Explore Article Scitation (Aug 12 2008)
Quadrature interferometry based on 3×3 fiber couplers could be used to double the effective imaging depth in Swept- Source Optical Coherence Tomography. This is due to its ability to suppress the complex conjugate artifact naturally. We present theoretical and experimental results for a 3×3 Mach-Zehnder interferometer using a new unbalanced differential optical detection method. The new interferometer provides simultaneous access to complementary phase components of the complex interferometric signal. No ... (Read Full Article)

A method of extracting a tomographic image of a layer within a body by optical coherence tomography, involves capturing three images, namely a non-interference background image, a first interference-fringe image of said layer, and a second interference-fringe image phase-shifted relative to the first interference-fringe image. The tomographic image is obtained by mathematically combining the three captured images. In a preferred embodiment random noise is removed by averaging and inter-layer effects ... (Read Full Article)
