About CardioSpectra

CardioSpectra

CardioSpectra.  Cardiology Systems.  CardioSpectra was founded in 2005 by Marc D. Feldman, M.D., of the Health Science Center and Thomas E. Milner, Ph.D., of UT Austin. It was aquired by Volcano in 2007. CardioSpectra is looking for innovative ways to image blood vessel plaques that are vulnerable to rupture. A better method of imaging these plaques could dramatically reduce the number of sudden deaths from strokes and heart attacks precipitated by plaque ruptures. Dr. Feldman, an interventional cardiologist and researcher, is collaborating with Dr. Milner, a biomedical engineer.  Founded in 2005 and headquartered in San Antonio, Texas, CardioSpectra is focused on the development of innovative medical devices based upon an extensive patent portfolio of Optical Coherence Tomography (OCT) systems and associated technologies. OCT images are created by detecting light reflected from tissue, forming optical interference patterns that generate high- resolution 2D and 3D renderings of the tissue structure.

Quotes about CardioSpectra

  1. We are also excited about the potential of our CardioSpectra acquisition and its Optical Coherence Tomography (OCT) technology as a complement to our IVUS offerings. Our product development program for this technology is on track and we hope to have our first offering in this area available for launch in the United States and Europe next year.
