      Enhancing microvasculature maps for Optical Coherence Tomography - Angiography (OCT-A)

      —OCT-A is becoming more popular in recent years and there is a high demand to improve the quality of angiograms as well as to extract quantitative information. We applied various processing methods for microvasculature enhancement like Hessian-Frangi to a data set obtained with Bessel and Gaussian OCT systems. We used angiogenesis, fractal and multifractal analysis to extract more quantitative information. We applied the processing methods for healthy, stroke, tumor progression and the results of enhanced processing and quantitative analysis for those are presented in this letter.

      Cystic fibrosis (CF) is a genetic disease that affects multiple organs due to the production of abnormally viscous mucus. Recurring pulmonary infections result in build-up of lung damage which leads to death. Intestinal, pancreatic, and hepatobiliary complications also occur, further aggravating the course of the disease. The molecular basis of CF is the dysfunction of the CF transmembrane conductance regulator (CFTR). CFTR-related disruption of transmembrane ion transport affects the exocrine glands, among which are the labial salivary glands (LSGs).       Dynamics of a short cavity swept source OCT laser

      We investigate the behaviour of a short cavity swept source laser with an intra cavity swept filter both experimentally and theoretically. We characterise the behaviour of the device with real-time intensity measurements using a fast digital oscilloscope, showing several distinct regimes, most notably regions of mode-hopping, frequency sliding mode-locking and chaos. A delay differential equation model is proposed that shows close agreement with the experimental results. The model is also used to determine important quantities such as the minimum and maximum sweep speeds for the mode-locking regime.       In this paper we demonstrate applicability of intensity-based optical coherence tomography technique for noninvasive visualization of 3D retinal microcapillary network. The study was performed with ultra high resolution and high speed (180,000 Ascans/sec) spectral optical coherence tomography (SOCT). New scanning protocols and data processing algorithms have been introduced to visualize microcapillary network. Moreover, results obtained in the eyes of healthy volunteers and patients with eye diseases were compared with fluorescein angiography.     6. Projection OCT fundus imaging for visualising outer retinal pathology in non-exudative age-related macular degeneration

      Aims: To demonstrate ultrahigh-resolution, three-dimensional optical coherence tomography (3D-OCT) and projection OCT fundus imaging for enhanced visualisation of outer retinal pathology in non-exudative age-related macular degeneration (AMD). Methods: A high-speed, 3.5 µm resolution OCT prototype instrument was developed for the ophthalmic clinic. Eighty-three patients with non-exudative AMD were imaged. Projection OCT fundus images were generated from 3D-OCT data by selectively summing different retinal depth levels. Results were compared with standard ophthalmic examination, including fundus photography and fluorescein angiography, when indicated.       Purpose. To visualize, quantitatively assess, and interpret outer retinal morphology by using high-speed, ultrahigh-resolution (UHR) OCT. methods. Retinal imaging was performed in the ophthalmic clinic in a cross-section of 43 normal subjects with a 3.5-µm, axial-resolution, high-speed, UHR OCT prototype instrument, using a radial scan pattern (24 images, 1500 axial scans).
