PhD Opening in Applied Optics at University of Kent

Project Description A PhD position is available in the field of Lasers for Biomedical Optics. This project is in competition with other projects offered by the School of Physical Sciences for one of a number of Vice Chancellor’s PhD Studentships. The aim of the project is to devise the next generation of lasers for optical coherence tomography (OCT). Time stretch technology consists in using an ultrashort, ultrawide bandwidth laser that is stretched in a dispersing element. Using the concept of time stretch, over tens of MHz tuning rate becomes possible. Such lasers can drive the future OCT systems that ...

PhD Opening in Fibre-Based Holographic Imaging at University of Kent

Project Description A PhD position is available in the field of Biophotonics. This project is in competition with other projects offered by the School of Physical Sciences for one of a number of EPSRC Doctoral Training Partnership Studentships. The aim of this project is to investigate the transmission of high resolution optical phase information over optical fibres using digital holography. Fibre-based microscopy has a range of applications in biosciences and medicine, including as a real-time, endoscopic alternative to conventional histology. While intensity-based imaging via fibre bundles is well-established, recovery of phase information is far more challenging and will require use ...

PhD Opening in Optical Coherence Tomography at University of Kent

Project Description A PhD position is available in the field of Biophotonics. This project is in competition with other projects offered by the School of Physical Sciences for one of a number of EPSRC Doctoral Training Partnership Studentships. The aim of this project is to advance the technology of optical coherence tomography (OCT). OCT has a range of applications in medical imaging and the project can focus on one of the areas of rapid development such as Master Slave and Down-conversion OCT methods, prototyping OCT assemblies, or advancing the technology of OCT components such as the optical source or ultra ...

Masters of Science in Optical Coherence Tomography at the University of Kent

Optical Coherence Tomography (OCT) is having a dramatic impact on the diagnosis and management of eye disease, and offers a wide range of career prospects in research and industry. Come and study the principles of spectral and time domain interferometry, and learn how progress in the fibre optics and laser industry has shaped OCT technology. In this one-year programme, students will develop an experimental project under the supervision of one of the four academics of the Applied Optics Group (AOG) which has long and extensive experience in OCT. Projects can be selected from a wide range of areas, including tissue ...

    5. Method and apparatus for processing the signal in spectral domain interferometry and method and apparatus for spectral domain optical coherence tomography

Method and apparatus for processing the signal in spectral domain interferometry and method and apparatus for spectral domain optical coherence tomography

Real-time depth measurements in sensing in spectral domain interferometry and for en-face and cross section image production in optical coherence tomography can operate without any need to linearize the data to maximize the output signal and achieve the theoretical depth resolution. Novel interferometry is disclosed, where parameters of a master interferometer dictate the results in a slave interferometer. The master interferometer can be the same measuring interferometer used in two stages. The master interferometer parameters are at least optical path difference (OPD) or the speed of variation of the OPD in the master interferometer. Coherence gated data are produced from ...
