Optical coherence tomography evaluation of posterior capsule opacification related to intraocular lens design
Purpose
To evaluate posterior capsule opacification (PCO) and the impact of different intraocular lens (IOL) models on PCO characteristics using optical coherence tomography (OCT).
Methods
Eighty-three eyes with PCO (fibrosis or pearl type) and 32 pseudophakic eyes without PCO were included. Horizontal 3.0 mm long OCT scans of the posterior capsule were obtained. Measurements and means of the peak posterior capsule intensity (PCI) and posterior capsule thickness (PCT) (distance between 2 spikes at posterior capsule) at 3 scan points were recorded.
