    1. Optical Coherence Tomography for Fingerprint Presentation Attack Detection (Book Chapter)

Optical Coherence Tomography for Fingerprint Presentation Attack Detection (Book Chapter)

New research in fingerprint biometrics uses optical coherence tomography (OCT) technology to acquire fingerprints from where they originate below the surface of the skin. The penetrative nature of this technology means that rich information is available regarding the structure of the skin. This access, in turn, enables new techniques in detecting spoofing attacks, and therefore also introduces mitigation steps against current presentation attack methods. These techniques include the ability to detect fake fingers; fake layers applied above the skin; differentiate between fakes and surface skin conditions; and liveness detection based on, among others, the analysis of eccrine glands and capillary ...

    2. Performance analysis of a Hybrid fingerprint extracted from optical coherence tomography fingertip scans

Performance analysis of a Hybrid fingerprint extracted from optical coherence tomography fingertip scans

The Hybrid fingerprint is a local-quality-specific blend of the surface and internal fingerprints, extracted from optical coherence tomography scans. Owing to its origin, and the manner in which it is obtained, the Hybrid fingerprint is a high-quality and secure fingerprint acquisition solution. This research entails a detailed description of the Hybrid fingerprint, the techniques involved to produce it, and a performance analysis of it. A dataset of 282 fingertip scans was established. Two recognised minutiae extraction and fingerprint matching algorithms were applied to assess the performance of the Hybrid fingerprint. The best equal error rate measured was 1.25%. NIST ...

    3. Fingerprint Matching with Optical Coherence Tomography

Fingerprint Matching with Optical Coherence Tomography

Fingerprint recognition is an important security technique with a steadily growing usage for the identification and verification of individuals. However, current fingerprint acquisition systems have certain disadvantages, which include the requirements of physical contact with the acquisition device, and the presence of undesirable artefacts, such as scars, on the surface of the fingerprint. This paper evaluates the accuracy of a complete framework for the capturing of undamaged, undistorted fingerprints from below the skins surface using optical coherence tomography hardware, the extraction and conversion of the subsurface data into a usable fingerprint and the matching of such fingerprints. The ability of ...
