    1. Relationship Between Renal Function and Choroidal Thickness in Type 2 Diabetic Patients Detected by Swept-Source Optical Coherence Tomography

Relationship Between Renal Function and Choroidal Thickness in Type 2 Diabetic Patients Detected by Swept-Source Optical Coherence Tomography

Purpose : To investigate the relationship between renal function and choroidal thickness (CT) in ocular treatment-naïve patients with diabetes mellitus using swept-source optical coherence tomography (SS-OCT). Methods : This cross-sectional study recruited type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) patients with no history of ocular treatment from communities in Guangzhou, China. The estimated glomerular filtration rates (eGFR) were calculated by using the Xiangya formula. The impaired renal function was defined as eGFR < 60 mL/(min 1.73 m 2 ). The choroid was imaged by using an SS-OCT, and the macular CT was quantified automatically in Early Treatment Diabetic Retinopathy Study maps, and only ...

    2. Association of renal function with retinal vessel density in patients with type 2 diabetes by using swept-source optical coherence tomographic angiography

Association of renal function with retinal vessel density in patients with type 2 diabetes by using swept-source optical coherence tomographic angiography

Aims To investigate the relationship between retinal vessel density and renal function in patients with diabetes mellitus (DM) using non-invasive optical coherence tomographic angiography (OCTA). Methods This prospective cross-sectional study recruited ocular-treatment-naïve patients with DM registered in the community of Guangzhou, China. The retinal vessel density of the superficial capillary plexus in the macula was obtained by using swept-source OCTA imaging. The Xiangya equation was used to calculate the estimated glomerular filtrate rate (eGFR). Participants were divided into the following groups by eGFR: no chronic kidney disease (non-CKD), mild CKD and moderate-to-severe CKD (MS-CKD). Results A total of 874 ...

    3. The influence of insulin therapy on measurements of optical coherence tomography parameters in diabetic patients without retinopathy

The influence of insulin therapy on measurements of optical coherence tomography parameters in diabetic patients without retinopathy

Purpose To determine whether there was a change in the fundus of the eye in diabetic patients without retinopathy after insulin therapy. Methods The diabetic patients without retinopathy were included in this study. A swept-source optical coherence tomography/angiography (SS-OCT/A) was used to obtain the measurements of macular retinal nerve fibre layer (mRNFL) thickness, ganglion cell-inner plexiform layer (GC-IPL) thickness, retinal thickness (RT), macular choroidal thickness (MCT), peripapillary retinal nerve fibre layer (pRNFL) thickness, peripapillary choroidal thickness (PCT), and perfused vascular density (PVD). Univariable and multivariable regression analyses were performed to explore the influence of insulin use on measurements ...

    4. Choroidal thickness changes in obstructive sleep apnea syndrome: a systematic review and meta-analysis

Choroidal thickness changes in obstructive sleep apnea syndrome: a systematic review and meta-analysis

Purpose Obstructive sleep apnea syndrome (OSAS) is a common chronic disorder associated with hypoxia and endothelial and vascular dysfunction. Many studies have analyzed choroidal thickness measurements in patients with different severities of OSAS versus normal subjects by optical coherence tomography (OCT), but the results have been inconsistent. Therefore, a meta-analysis was performed to evaluate the choroidal thickness changes in OSAS measured by OCT. Methods Pertinent studies were retrieved by a comprehensive search of PubMed, Embase, Web of Science, and the Cochrane Library from inception to August 2015. For continuous outcomes, the weighted mean difference (WMD) and 95 % confidence interval (CI ...
