    IDENTIFICATION OF CARIOUS LESIONS IN ENAMEL USING OPTICAL COHERENCE TOMOGRAPHY

    The aim of this research was to asses wether OCT could be used for early detection of carious/ demineralised lesions in enamel. If application of Optical coherence tomography (OCT) could be used in early, chair-side detection of caries and therefore initiate the prompt treatment strategies required. 10 extracted teeth were selected with no visible carious lesion. All teeth were scanned using Xray Microtomography (XMT). Four teeth were found with areas of demineralisation which were not visible to the naked eye. The same lesions were then scanned using OCT.
