    Nickel contact dermatitis evaluated by means of optical coherence tomography: first impressions

    Nickel contact allergy, a major health problem in the general population, is usually diagnosed through appropriate clinical history and patch testing.(1, 2) Patch‐test results are not fully objectivable and are influenced by the observer's experience.(3) Moreover, not every individual with nickel‐sensitization develops a clinically visible contact allergy. We hypothesized that non‐invasive diagnostic techniques such as optical coherence tomography (OCT) could provide further details in interpreting patch‐tests and eventually detect subclinical changes in subjective reactions to known contact allergens.
