Open PhD Position at the Institute of Medical Technology at Hamburg University of Technology
The Institute of Medical Technology at Hamburg University of Technology has an open position for a Research Assistant / PhD candidate. The fulltime position is funded for two years (salary according to level E13, app. 43K EUR p.a.).
We have a research focus on robotics and navigation in medicine. In a collaborative research project we are currently studying methods for OCT image guided placement of needles in soft tissue. Using methods from robotics and machine learning you will develop new approaches for acquisition of tissue parameters from within the needle and for precise control of the needle motion. Your tasks include developing and publishing new methods, fostering and extending collaborations with clinical and industrial partners, and preparing further grant proposals.
The successful applicant holds an excellent Master's degree in physics, electrical engineering, computer science, or similar fields and has a solid background in optics and image / signal processing. Experience with robotics or machine learning methods would be very helpful. Excellent programming skills (Java / C++) and fluency in English are essential; experience in publishing papers is a strong plus.
