    Postdoctoral Research in Ophthalmic Imaging at NYU Langone Eye Center

    The Ophthalmic Imaging Research Laboratory at the New York University is looking for a Postdoctoral Associate to join our multidisciplinary, innovative and vibrant team of clinicians, engineers, software specialists, and biostatisticians. Our research is mostly funded by federal grants and focused on using advanced imaging devices and tools in order to detect and monitor glaucoma – a leading cause of blindness – and investigate new theories about the cause and pathology of the disease. Our translational research has led to numerous important implications on clinical management.

    The advertised position will primarily be focused on development of advanced optical imaging approaches and novel applications of technologies such as visible light OCT and a multimodal system of adaptive optics conjugated with both optical coherence tomography (OCT) and scanning laser ophthalmoscopy (SLO).

    We are searching for a creative and highly motivated researcher with an interest in clinical and pre-clinical applications of in vivo ophthalmic imaging techniques. Preference will be given to candidates with demonstrated expertise in one or more of the following areas:

    • Optical imaging system design
    • Optical coherence tomography
    • Adaptive optics retinal imaging
    • Image processing

    The ideal candidate will hold a PhD in biomedical engineering/bioengineering, electrical engineering, physics, optics or a closely related field. S/he should be comfortable working directly with human subjects or animal models, have strong publication record and oral communication skills, experience with hardware and software development environment (C++, Visual Studio, X-Code, and/or MatLab), and have the ability to work independently as well as on a collaborative and supportive interdisciplinary team.

    Specific responsibilities include:

    • Development and maintenance of advance imaging systems
    • Acquiring images in human subjects and/or animal models
    • Analyzing experimental results
    • Image processing on MatLab/Image-J (or Fiji)
    • Presenting findings at scientific meetings
    • Writing and submitting manuscripts to peer-reviewed journals
    • Contributing to grant proposals
    • Mentoring students or visiting fellows

    The start date is as soon as possible, with anticipated duration of at least 2 years.
