Bioptigen introduces 1 µm resolution SD-OCT imaging system in collaboration with NKT Photonics supercontinuum white light laser source at ARVO conference in Seattle
Device becomes first 1 um OCT system available for Ophthalmic Research market
Bioptigen Inc. has introduced 1 µm axial resolution imaging to its line of EnvisuTM spectral domain OCT systems. The company has now integrated NKT Photonics SuperK supercontinuum laser with Bioptigen’s new 300 nm spectrometer to achieve a breakthrough in ophthalmic imaging for preclinical research.
“The progression to 1 µm extreme resolution imaging is an exciting advancement for our Envisu R-Class research product line”, said Dr. Eric Buckland, CEO of Bioptigen. “The importance of this innovation is that it offers researchers true cellular-level in vivo optical histology. This Extreme High Resolution (XHR) capability is unlocked only by the combination of Bioptigen’s patented spectrometer and signal processing technologies with the NKT Photonics SuperK supercontinuum source.”

Images acquired, processed, and displayed in real time at 20 kHz, with 1000 A-scans per frame, at 20 frames per second. The images are displayed as acquired with no averaging or post processing. The images were obtained using Bioptigen’s noncontact lenses customized for mouse cornea and retina, respectively. The mouse was aligned in 2 minutes using the Bioptigen Rodent Alignment Stage (RAS).
