    After coronary stent placement, the vascular response to injury includes re-endothelialization by resident and circulating bone marrow–derived endothelial progenitor cells (1). Delayed re-endothelialization after drug-eluting stent (DES) implantation may lead to uncovered stent struts and an increased risk for stent thrombosis.
