The international Biophotonics and Imaging Graduate Summer School (BIGSS) is a 5 ECTS credit course run every two years in partnership with Photonics 4 Life and SPIE as an intimate gathering located in the rugged landscape of west coast of Ireland. The peripheral location and limited student numbers are specifically chosen to foster student-tutor interaction and enhance the learning experience. Each school offers an excellent group of international experts giving 4hr lecture series in their specialist areas. There is a focus on quantitative imaging in diagnosis and therapy this year which I think is also very topical.
This year, our speakers will cover modules such as:
Optical Coherence Tomography
High Frequency Ultrasound
Photoacoustic Spectroscopy and Tomography
Fluorescence Molecular Imaging
Quantitative Phase Imaging of Cells and Tissues
Non-linear Photonics, Lasers and Optical Information Processing
Optical Techniques for Diagnosis and Guidance of Therapy
Photodynamic therapy (PDT)
As always we have a special emphasis on Commercialising Your Research and we are delighted to announce that this year’s tutorial will be led by Hugh Cormican (CEO of Cirdan Imaging and former CEO/co-founder of Andor).
