      Biopsy remains the gold standard, but newer tools are useful adjuncts. More than 3.5 million skin cancers are diagnosed in more than 2 million patients in the United States each year, 1 and evidence from the American Academy of Dermatology (AAD) suggests that 20% of Americans will develop skin cancer.
