New 16 bit, 250 MS/s PCI Express Waveform Digitizer Features User Programmable FPGA from AlazarTech
AlazarTech, a manufacturer of high performance, low cost PC Based Instruments,today announced the release of ATS9625®, a 250 MS/s, 16 bit waveform digitizer based on the 8-lane PCI Expres bus that features a user programmable FPGA for custom signal processing. (see data sheet Here)
Analog specifications of the ATS9625® are quite impressive: 16 bit, 250 MS/s sampling; > 75 dB SINAD and an ENOB of 12.08; and ac-coupled 1 MHz to 150 MHz analog bandwidth allows easy interface to many radio frequencies. Full scale input range of the ATS9625® is fixed at 2.5 Vp-p.
Undeniably, the most powerful feature of ATS9625® is the on-board user-programmable Stratix III FPGA from Altera. All A/D converter data, external trigger and auxiliary I/O signals flow through this FPGA, allowing users to completely customize the ATS9625® for their own application.
“Our RF customers, as well as biomedical imaging OEMs, asked for on-board signal processing in order to reduce downstream CPU-intensive signal processing”, stated Muneeb Khalid, President of AlazarTech. “as a result of this customer demand, we designed ATS9625® to not only be the fastest 16 bit waveform digitizer, but also the most flexible and most deployable”.
ATS9625® offers two simultaneous analog inputs that can each be sampled at rates up to 250 MS/s with 16 bit vertical resolution and up to 2 Gigasamples of on-board, dual port acquisition memory buffer.
The standard ATS9625® board is equipped with the EP3SL50F780C4N FPGA, which provides 38,000 registers, 1.8 MByte of memory and 216 multipliers. A high capacity FPGA, EP3SE260F780C4N, is also available that provides 203,000 registers, 14 Mbytes of memory and 768 multipliers.
In either case, the unit occupies only one half-length PCI Express x8 or x16 slot, making it very easy to integrate it into a customer’s system.
Applications for ATS9625® are:
- Radio frequency applications
- OCT and other bio-medical imaging applications that require real-time signal processing such as FFT
- Other scanning applications that involve Acquisition of data with a rapidly occurring trigger (radar, ultrasonics, spectrometry, tomography …)
- Radar and lidar applications that require real-time signal processing
OEMs can integrate the ATS9625® PCI Express digitizers into their own systems very easily using the Windows 7/Vista/XP compatible ATS-SDK Software Development Kit. This SDK includes sample programs written in C/C++and MATLAB. A high performance LabVIEW® VI, called ATS-VI, is also available.
A source code Linux driver, ATS-Linux, can also be made available to qualified customers, who will have to execute a Non-Disclosure Agreement.
An FPGA development kit is sold separately that includes source code of an example VHDL design and a complete testbench and documentation. Also included is a JTAG test board that allows users to debug their FPGA designs using SignalTap in-system logic analyzer and USB Blaster cable from Altera.
