PhD positions available in Biomedical Imaging at the Center for Medical Physics and Biomedical Engineering at the Medical University of Vienna
Dr. Conrad Merkle is looking for highly motivated candidates for two PhD student positions focusing on advanced optical imaging at the Center for Medical Physics and Biomedical Engineering at the Medical University of Vienna, Austria. Candidates should have a background in engineering, optical physics, computer science, or a related discipline with an interest to develop next-generation optical imaging methods. Our lab, part of the Baumann group, is focused on the development of non-invasive optical imaging technologies – in particular optical coherence tomography (OCT) – and their applications in biomedicine. The work tackled in these PhD theses will advance current technology and provide new tools for in-vivo biomedical imaging.
Selected candidates will be exposed to a highly collaborative environment at the interface of physics, engineering, biomedical research, and medicine. An ambitious yet cooperative mindset and social skills as well as a good command of English are a prerequisite for joining our lab. Prior experience in optics, photonics, image processing, and/or good programming skills (Labview, Matlab, C++, Python) are a plus. The PhD project is funded for three and a half years and will be carried out within the framework of the PhD program “Medical Physics” at the Medical University of Vienna.
The Medical University of Vienna is one of the most traditional medical training and research facilities in Europe. Tightly integrated with the Vienna General Hospital, it is the largest medical training institute in the German-speaking area with about 8,000 students and among the most important cutting-edge research institutes of Europe in the area of biomedicine today. Vienna ranks first in several international quality of life comparison between cities and provides a scenic, safe, and culturally vibrant home to almost two million inhabitants.
If you are interested in this position, please send your CV along with a brief letter of motivation to Conrad Merkle (firstname.lastname@example.org).
