    The incorporation of polarization sensitivity into optical coherence tomography (PS-OCT) imaging can greatly enhance utility by allowing differentiation via intrinsic contrast of many types of tissue. In fiber-based OCT systems such as those employing endoscopic imaging probes, however, polarization mode dispersion (PMD) can significantly impact the ability to obtain accurate polarization data unless valuable axial resolution is sacrificed.
