    The Biophotonics Imaging Laboratory at the Beckman Institute for Advanced Science and Technology on the campus of the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign has immediate openings for a post-doctoral research associate and a graduate student in the area of otologic (ear) imaging using optical coherence tomography (OCT). Headed by Prof. Stephen Boppart, the Biophotonics Imaging Laboratory is a dynamic and productive interdisciplinary research and training environment focused on developing novel optical biomedical imaging technologies, translating them into clinical applications, and driving them toward commercialization for improving healthcare. 

    Successful candidates are expected to have a strong experimental research background in OCT hardware systems and software development. Experience with clinical OCT research including studies with human subjects and physician collaborators is preferred. 

    The Biophotonics Imaging Laboratory is an international leader in the development and application of OCT for otology applications, with a 15+ year record of seminal publications and clinical studies on the use of OCT for diagnosing ear infections and detecting fluid, bacterial biofilms, and pathologies in the ear. New NIH-funded projects include differentiating bacterial species, developing new treatment paradigms, expanding clinical studies, AI-augmented disease classification, diagnosis, and prognosis, and longitudinal monitoring of responses to interventions. These positions are most suitable for outgoing and driven individuals with learning and leadership goals, and a willingness to take on more independent responsibilities while working as part of an integrated research team of engineers and collaborating clinicians.
