    The GlaxoSmithKline Center for Optical Molecular Imaging at the Beckman Institute for Advanced Science and Technology seeks a bright, energetic, and motivated candidate to fill a vacancy for a full-time Postdoctoral Research Associate in the area of image data analysis.  The purpose of this position is to lead the analysis of image data from translational optical biomedical imaging systems.  The successful candidate will need a solid and broad understanding of image analysis software as well as software development including high-level user interface requirements in a Windows environment, data file structure design, experience with data acquisition and control interfacing, high-volume real-time data management and storage, and knowledge of DSP- and GPU-based programming.  The candidate will work closely with research personnel and will interface directly with industry partners and collaborators at GlaxoSmithKline.

    Duties and Responsibilities:

    • Evaluate current software systems and algorithms, software requirements definition, design, and testing, user interfaces, data storage and communication, and implementation of image processing algorithms.
    • Understand and modify the design implementation of platform system software and image analysis algorithms for optical biomedical imaging technologies.
    • Develop automated data screening and processing methods for high through-put data/image analysis.
    • Interact with researchers developing optical imaging hardware and collaborating physicians to define and implement software for data acquisition and control, signal processing, data visualization, and user interface design, as well as other software needs on a Windows or embedded system platform.
    • Collaborate with industry partners for product-specific hardware using digital signal processors (DSPs), graphical processing units (GPUs), and field-programmable gate arrays (FPGAs).
    • Continue to develop professionally (e.g., member of professional society, attend conferences, publish research results, keep up on latest programming advances).
    • Work closely with research personnel and physicians, and interface directly with industry partners and collaborators at GlaxoSmithKline.

    Required Qualifications:

    • Doctoral degree in data analytics, computer science, engineering, or related field.  Alternate degree fields will be considered/accepted depending on the nature and depth of the experience as it relates to this position.  Doctoral degree must have been completed within the last 10 years.
    • Previous experience resulting in proficiency of C++. 
    • Experience with data acquisition and control interfacing, and high-volume real-time data management and storage.
    • Good verbal and written communication skills.
    • Solid and broad understanding of image analysis software as well as software development, including high-level user interface requirements in a Windows environment, data file structure design, and knowledge of DSP- and GPU-based programming.

    Preferred Qualifications:

    • Significant software development experience for hardware-based imaging systems.
    • Proficiency in C, C#, and/or Java.
    • 3+ years of relevant system-level software development, software analysis, and integration experience, image acquisition, processing, analysis, and display.
    • Experience in optical imaging, ultrasound imaging, or other biomedical imaging experience, medical device design, DSP-based and/or GPU-based software development, object-oriented programming, and database programming.
    • Previous work in an industry or research environment is a plus.
    • Knowledge of National Instruments DAQ hardware, Labview and Matlab.
